Graduation Requirements

Requirements for Students Beginning High School in Fall 2009

Sevier County Board of Education Credits Required to Graduate:  28

  • MATH:  4 Credits (1 Credit Required Each Year of High School) Including Algebra I, II, Geometry and a fourth higher level Math Course
  • SCIENCE:  3 Credits (Including Biology, Chemistry or Physics, and a third lab course)
  • ENGLISH:  4 Credits (1 Credit Required Each Year of High School)
  • SOCIAL STUDIES:  4 Credits (Including World History/Geography, United States History, Government, AND EITHER Economics/Personal Finance, Business Economics, or Marketing and Personal Finance (2 Credits))
  • WELLNESS:  1 Credit       
  • PHYSICAL EDUCATION:  1 Credit
  • FOREIGN LANGUAGE: 2 (of the Same Foreign Language)
  • FINE ARTS:  1 Credit (Foreign Language and/or Fine Arts can be waived for students not going to a University to expand the elective focus)
  • ELECTIVE FOCUS/PROGRAM OF STUDY: 3 Credits (Math and Science, Fine Arts, Humanities, Career and Technical Education)

  

Honors Diploma Requirements are Based On ACT Test Scores

A student must meet the following bench scores in each area

English   18       Reading   22                   Math   22           Science   23

Class of 2016 Requirements

Graduation with Distinction Honors

Tennessee graduates who maintain a B Average and complete an additional approved credential will graduate with distinction.  Approved credentials include:

      • Nationally recognized industry certification
      • Tennessee Governor’s School
      • All State Musical Organization
      • National Merit Finalist or Semi Finalist
      • A composite score of 31 or higher on the ACT
      • A core of 3 or higher on two AP Exams
      • 12 or more hours of post-secondary credit by transcript

 

Top 10% Requirements  (Class of 2016, 2017)

Honors English – minimum of 3 units; sophomore level and above
Mathematics - 4 units, Algebra I and above
Science - 4 units (one must be Chemistry)

 

Top 10% Requirements for Freshman Fall 2014

(Class of 2018 and beyond)

Honors English – minimum of 3 units; sophomore level and above 
Mathematics - 4 units, Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II, and Finite or above (Sails/Bridge Math not included) 
Science - 4 units (one must be Chemistry or Physics)
