Purpose

The purpose of Mu Alpha Theta is to promote scholarship in Mathematics as well as the enjoyment and understanding of the beauty of Mathematics among high school and two-year college students.

Who Can Join?

All students who have completed Algebra I and Geometry, are enrolled in upper level courses, and have at least a 3.0 GPA.

There is a one-time fee of $ 10.00 that will grant you membership for the rest of your high school years, granted you keep at least a 3.0 GPA.

A student can be an associate member who has completed Algebra I and has at least a 3.0 GPA. Associate members are not members of Mu Alpha Theta, but are likely candidates for membership. Associates can become members after the completion of Geometry. They can participate in all club activities, but cannot hold an office or vote on club matters.

Club Activities

·      Offering after school tutoring to the student body on Tuesdays & Thursdays from 3:00 to 4:00 pm in room C-11 (Community Service Hours)

·      Training for and competing in Mathematics competitions (Tuesdays & Thursdays 4:00 pm)

·      Mathematical presentations

·      Guest speakers who use Mathematics in their profession

·      “Bear’ista Coffee House” for our scholarship fund for one or two of our graduating seniors who will major in Mathematics or Sciences.
